London-based experimental duo Delmer Darion have returned with their first music of 2023. ‘First Photograph Of The Nebula In Orion’ is essentially a two-part work, with each part utilising the sound of a different artist. The first is folk-adjacent, leaning into the nostalgic sound found on their 2020 debut album, Morning Pagents, and showcasing Spencer Radcliffe’s slow-burning melodies. The second half changes tone drastically, with Martha Skye Murphy’s spectral voice floating above improvised, one-take recordings of a broken pipe organ. On the artwork that accompanies the piece, the duo say: “Multiple layers of paint were applied using a palette knife, allowed to dry, and then selectively scraped back to canvas.
